Kakinada: Kakinada Parliamentary Constituency is located in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. As per the estimates of 2011 census, out of total 1936809 population 65.78% is rural and 34.22% is urban. As per the voter list of 2018, there are 1,36,910 voters and 1547 polling stations in this constituency.
Voter turnout in the 2014 parliamentary election was 77.68% where as it was 76.32% in 2009 Parliamentary Election. The INC, the TDP and the YSRCP got 1.8%, 46.76% and 46.45% votes respectively in 2014-parliamentary election while the BJP, the INC and the TDP got 1.54%, 33.51% and 26.72% in 2009-parliamentary election respectively.
Kakinada Lok Sabha constituency presently comprises the following Legislative Assembly segments of Tuni,Prathipadu,Pithapuram,Kakinada Rural,Peddapuram,Kakinada City and Jaggampeta.
Thota Narasimham (TDP) is the present Lok Sabha MP of Kakinada Parliamentary Constituency. He won the elections in 2014 with a margin of 3,431 votes over YSRCP Candidate Sunil Chalamalasetty.
Interestingly Sunil Chalamalasetty later shifted to TDP and recently MP Thota Narasimham met YSRCP Chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and joined the party.
The YSRCP MP candidate for Kakinada Vanga Geetha Viswanadh (55) hails from Kakinada and is a triple post graduate. Vanga Geetha started her career as a Zilla Parishad Chairman and moved up the ladder.
She joined the TDP and was nominated to the Rajya Sabha (2000-2006). She was also a former MLA from Pithapuram constituency from 2009 to 2014 as a Praja Rajyam Party member.
A seasoned politician with more than 35 years of political experience she has worked for the development of the constituency and is widely respected in the region.
Vanga Geetha will be pitted against Sunil Chalamalasetty of the TDP and has bright chances of winning the Lok Sabha seat as she quite popular in Kakinada and is said to receive support from Thota Narasimham's followers.
