When YS Jagan Gave The Bapatla Lok Sabha Seat To A Poor Dalit

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Nandigama Suresh - Sakshi Post

For generations, they had been poor Dalits struggling for survival. Nandigama Suresh Babu had never imagined that he would enter politics one day nor could he have dreamt that he would be given the prestigious Bapatla Lok Sabha ticket. But then that is YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

When YS Jagan Mohan Reddy told them that he was the party's choice for the Bapatla Lok Sabha seat, Nandigama Suresh Babu was pleasantly surprised.

More than that, he was honoured when the party president asked him to read out the list of YSRCP Lok Sabha candidates at Idupulapaya on Sunday. YS Jagan departing from tradition asked the Dalit candidate from Bapatla to read out the list.

An overwhelmed Suresh Babu admitted that till Saturday he did not know that he was going to be fielded for a Lok Sabha contest. He described his journey from an agricultural labourer to a member of the manifesto committee and core committee of the party leader as surreal.

He says that people are surprised as to how a poor Dalit was given a ticket nailing TDP's propaganda that YS Jagan was giving tickets only to wealthy candidates.

Nandigama Suresh Babu hails from an impoverished Dalit family belonging to Udhandaraipalem in Guntur district. Having lost his father at an early age, he studied in an SC hostel till SSC and then to help his family survive, he worked as an agricultural labourer for sometime and also as a photographer.

An ardent fan of Dr YSR and a loyalist of YSRCP, Sureshbabu took part in numerous protests fighting for the rights of farmers, braving police oppression let loose by TDP.

His mother Santoshamma said: "When my son hugged me and wept, I understood that Jagan sir had recognised his sincerity and honoured him with a seat. I was so moved that I couldn't watch television."
