As situation continues to remain tensed in Ananthapuram district, the police battalions have reached the agitation areas in large numbers. The protestors opposing division of the state, damaged the statues and some shops in the district.

The latest we hear is that they barged into the MRO office and damaged the furniture. They also pelted stones at the buses. Several vehicles were damaged during the stone pelting. Central paramilitary forces have been deployed in large numbers in the district to ensure law and order is maintained.

When situation went out of control, police were forced to use teargas shells to disperse the crowd. They were also vandalizing Rajiv Gandhi statues in several areas. The protesters squatted on the roads and prevented the RTC buses from plying at different places.
