Jogipet: Swapna Reddy who? The lady sarpanch from Andole, filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking a direction on reservations crossing the stipulated 50%, as mandated by an earlier Supreme Court judgment. As it turned out, the High Court upheld her contention, making it clear to the Telangana government.

Swapna Reddy became the focus of all attention following the Court ruling, leading everybody to pose the inevitable question--Swapna Reddy, who? Telangana Chief Minister, K. Chandrashekhar Rao is reported to have frowned upon intelligence officials on the issue. The chief minister is learnt to have referred to Swapna Reddy as a sarpanch affiliated to the congress party.

Meanwhile, Swapna Reddy is reported to have clarified that the objective of the petition was not to stall elections to local bodies, but only to point out that it was violative of an apex court order. If the government goes in for an appeal against the High Court directive, she would also ask the SC to ensure that quotas do not exceed 50%, as per the court's ruling.
