The popular Rs. 499 and Rs.149 mobile data packs from airtel, the largest telecom company in India currently, which were intended to vie with the inexpensive Reliance Jio network, have seen drastic reduction in the data benefits.

The 399 and 149 packs, which earlier offered 2.4GB for 84 days and 2GB (select users) respectively, are now back to the normal benefits again.

Airtel’s Rs 149 plan is now offering 1GB data per day for 28 days (select users), while the Rs 399 plan is giving the normal 1.4GB data benefit for 84 days for select users. The new 1.4GB plan is valid for 84 days for some users but for others it’s valid only for 70 days; the validity can be checked on the Airtel website.

Despite the reduce in the data benefits, the packs still offer Unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS per day.

Interestingly, the toughest Telecom competitor in the market, Reliance Jio, has attracted a large sum of customers with its June ‘Double Dhamaka’ offer. With this change of plan by AIrtel, we are yet to see how the competitor reacts.
