There is a way to recover or see messages deleted by the other person in a WhatsApp chat. If an incoming message has generated a notification on the phone, it can be recovered from the notification log of the Android handsets. Nonetheless, this method does not work if a notification was not generated, in case if the chat is left open on the App or active when the message is received.
There are two or three ways to see such messages, according to a Spanish tech blog. First, one can install Notification History application from Google Play Store. After installing it, open the app and look for WhatsApp icon and you will be able to see those deleted messages.
The second way is to enter the notification log manually. To do this, long press on the home screen and select widgets. Scroll until you find settings widget. Pull that on your home screen. A pop-up window with a range of options to choose from. Here, Notification log should be selected. From now on, this setting widget will directly lead to notification history. After the notification log is opened, all the notifications can be seen there. When the notification is opened here, it will load all the details of the notification, along with the text.
However, only about first 100 characters of the message will be visible. The notification log saves messages only for a few hours. So after a long time, messages might not be retrievable. If the phone is pre-installed with a cleaner, there is a danger of the notification getting deleted and apparently the text message. The messages will be unrecoverable even when you have restarted the phone. Only text messages can be recovered. Images or video messages, if deleted by the sender will display the usual message "This message was deleted".
