Hyderabad: Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh has announced his decision to quit as member of the Telangana Legislative Assembly in protest against the state government's failure to rehabilitate over 300 residents of Dhoolpet.

A committee was formed with the district collector as chairman to look into the rehabilitation of the Dhoolpet residents who lost their livelihood due to the ban. As member of that committee I had requested the collector to implement the welfare schemes but to no avail

In a letter to chief minister K Chandasekhar Rao, the MLA said that the government imposed a ban on manufacture and sale of 'Gudamba' soon after coming to power. It has also announced rehabilitation of the families who will be impacted by the ban, he said and added that till date no concrete rehabilitation measures were implemented. "A committee was formed with the district collector as chairman to look into the rehabilitation of the Dhoolpet residents who lost their livelihood due to the ban. As member of that committee I had requested the collector to implement the welfare schemes but to no avail," Raja Singh said.

The MLA is expected to submit his resignation to the chief minister on Tuesday.
