Guntur: Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh assembly and YSR Congress Party President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy congratulated Kidambi Srikanth on becoming world No 1 badminton player. YS Jagan said it was indeed a proud moment for everyone. "Srikanth is the only player after Prakash Padukone to have achieved this fete and moreover he is Telugu person."

Kidambi Srikanth touched the No 1 in the men’s BWF men’s singles rankings today. He displaced Denmark’s Victok Axelsen from the top spot. The 25-year-old shuttler’s prolific form in 2017, during which he won a record four Super Series titles. In fact it has helped him reach 76,895 rating points, the best ever by an Indian male badminton player. He was a member of the Indian team that won the country’s first mixed team gold medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games.

YS Jagan said that Srikanth's achievement was commendable and wished him luck to win many more medals and world championships.
