India’s annual showpiece cricket event the Indian Premier League is kick-starting from April 7. Spread over 51 days, the most happening IPL 2018 will be held across nine cities with 60 matches.
Even before the season begins, IPL is already embroiled in several controversies like infamous ball-tampering which recently rocked the cricket world.
On the other side, after serving a ban for a period of two years Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals are back to the turf. While, each one has their favourites, but out of the entire squad there are five players who you should watch out for this IPL season.
The players are Virat Kohli, who holds the number one position followed by MS Dhoni, then comes Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik and Suresh Raina. This was tweeted by noted trade analyst Ramesh Bala and the source for the info is Ormax Media.
1. Virat Kohli
Indian skipper Virat Kohli heads the IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore. Kohli is in huge demand after series of records in the recent One Day Internationals. In fact he is the most expensive player who will be paid Rs 17 crore. To list some of his achievements—he stands third in the world to have scored 5,000 runs in ODI. He has been conferred ICC ODI Player of the Year: 2012 ,2017, ICC World Test XI: 2017 (captain), CEAT International Cricketer of the Year: 2011–12, 2013, Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World: 2016.
2. MS Dhoni
The captain of Chennai Super Kings MS Dhoni is popularly referred to as Thala by the Chennaites. After Kohli he is the second costliest player at Rs 15 crore. He is the first player who bagged ICC ODI Player of the Year award twice given to him in 2008 and 2009.
3. Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma heads Mumbai Indians and is one of the most successful captains who has been retained by their respective squad. Like Dhoni, he too will be paid Rs 15 crore. According to a portal, “Sharma has got a record of scoring highest number of fours in an ODI inning. He hit 33 boundaries.”
4. Dinesh Karthik
Shah Rukh Khan’s team Kolkata Knight Riders is headed by Dinesh Karthik. He first played for Delhi Daredevils during the first three instalments of IPL, then he was bought by Kings XI Punjab in 2011 and in 2013 played for Mumbai Indians.
5. Suresh Raina
He is the seventh most expensive player who will be paid Rs 11 crore and is fondly referred to as ‘China Thala’ by the Chennai Super Kings fans. To name some of his achievements, in all the three formats he is the first Indian to score centuries.
