Hyderabad: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is winding up the party in Telangana?

Indications to that effect have become very prominent with desertions by senior leaders, lack of visits by TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu to NTR Bhavan and the regular feature of meeting postponements. Sources say that the twice-postponed T-TDP meeting was rescheduled for February 28. However, a meeting on the new date is tentative due to the expected absence of Chandrababu Naidu.

The Desertions

Desertions have become a common feature of the T-TDP since the bifurcation of the state in 2014. Since then, several prominent leaders have shifted their loyalties to the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). Some of them have won the Assembly polls on a TDP ticket but moved to TRS in the lure of plum ministerial posts. Strangely, the state Assembly records continue to show them as TDP members. Notable among them are Kadiam Srihari, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Thummala Nageshwar Rao, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Jogu Ramanna, Patnam Mahender Reddy and Errabelli Dayakar Rao.

In the 2014 elections, the TDP won 12 MLA seats and a lone MP seat. They have now migrated to the TRS. The latest in the series of migrations is said to be Onteru Pratap Reddy who is said to be preparing to jump the fence.

Lack Of Flag-Bearers

The movement of leaders out of the party, has left it searching for flag-bearers at the district level. Political analysts say that the lack of able leaders in the districts indicates that the party might get the going tough in the next elections. It is well known that the lone TDP crusader against the TRS, Revanth Reddy is now a Congress member.

Chandrababu Ignoring T-TDP?

TDP president Chandrababu is said to be ignoring the party in Telangana. The party meeting has been postponed twice in the state. The next scheduled meeting for February 28 is said to be tentative. The TDP chief has not held any meeting with the Telangana cadre for sometime now. Clearly, the TDP days in Telangana are numbered.
