Rajavommangi: In a heart-rending incident, a dead man was ferried to his hometown for last rites after the health authorities refused to transport the body citing insufficient fuel in ambulance. The incident occurred at Rajavommangi mandal in East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh this morning.

According to the police, the victim has been identified as Gavireddy Thattayya (58), a farmer by profession, was a native of Vattigadda village in the district. He was rushed to Public Health Centre (PHC) after falling sick due to ill health. However, the doctor declared him brought dead. The family members urged the medical staff to transport the body in government ambulance. As they were told that there was no fuel in the vehicle, the family members carried the body on the two-wheeler to their village. Later, the relatives performed funeral to the deceased.
