Guntur: A woman committed suicide after throwing her two children in front of a train at Narasaraopet on Monday. After learning about the their deaths, her husband also committed suicide by consuming pesticide at a mill near Valaparla.

The family was in fact preparing to celebrate their daughter's birthday on Monday. The woman, Vijayalakshmi(32) was married to Penubothu Somashekar(40) of Ramakuru village in J. Pangaluru mandal in 2008. They had a daughter, Digvijaya(7) and a son Saiganesh(4).

As it was Digvijaya's birthday on Monday, Vijayalakshmi went to school to pick up both the children and to go for shopping from there. However, the woman took the children to a photo studio and got a group-photo clicked. She took the photo immediately and wrote their names on the backside.

She went to the railway track nearby. She tied her daughter's leg with her own with a rope so that the girl won't run away. She called her husband and told him she and children were dying. Then she jumped in front of a train after throwing her son and daughter on the track first. All three died on the spot.

As the suicide news spread in the village, Somasekhar borrowed Rs200 from his father and went to Valaparla to buy a pesticide bottle. He went to a mill nearby and consumed it. On hearing his cries, locals rushed him to a hospital but he died midway.

It remains a mystery as to what led the woman to kill her children and commit suicide in such a ghastly manner that too on her daughter's birthday. The family never had any financial problems or other serious issues to force them to commit mass suicides. The police are investigating into the reasons.
