Hyderabad: The ruling TRS-backed Telangana Boggu Gani Karmika Sangham (TBGKS), swept the trade union elections held on Thursday.

TBGKS captured nine out of 11 divisions in the coal belt that extends from Manuguru in Khammam district to Mandamarri in old Adilabad district in Telangana. The Left-oriented AITUC, backed by Congress-affiliated INTUC, TDP, BJP, CPI, CPM and all the other opposition groups, could win in just two divisions.

Out of a total 52,534 votes, TGBKS polled 23,800 while the opposition alliance got around 18,000 votes.

TBGKS won in Illendu, Singareni Bhavan, Kothagudem Corporate, Bellampally, Manuguru, Srirampur and Ramgundam-1, 2 and 3 divisions with a good majority while AITUC scraped through in Bhupalapally and Mandamarri divisions with a small lead.

TBGKS also won in the Hyderabad Corporate division where the party polled 77 votes out of 84.

IT Minister, KT Rama Rao, congratulated Nizamabad MP, Kavitha, on the victory as she led the campaign from the front right through. KTR lambasted the opposition for its unethical alliance with the sole aim of defeating TRS.
