Jamshedpur: A man, who used to run a school at a village in East Singhbhum district in Jharkhand allegedly hacked his wife to death and committed suicide.
The incident happened at Tikar Serendih village about 40 km away from Jamshedpur. The students of the school raised an alarm when the couple did not come out of their house on Friday and sought the help of villagers. The villagers in turn informed the police. The police had to break open the main door of the house since it was locked from inside.
While Rajiv Pratap Rana was found hanging from a ceiling fan, his wife Renu Devi's body was found lying on the floor in a pool of blood, a police officer said. The couple had four minor children - three daughters aged between three and ten years and an eight-month-old son, the officer said. A blood stained axe and a mobile phone was also recovered from the spot by the police, who sent the bodies for post-mortem. Though the exact reason behind the incident could not been ascertained, preliminary investigation suggested that Rana killed his wife. "We are verifying the call details on the mobile phone recovered from the spot," police said.
