Looks like we are in the middle of a biopic season in both the Tollywood and Bollywood industries. Already, Sanju and MS Dhoni-The Untold story have stormed the Bollywood box office, while Tollywood is basking on the success of Mahanati, in which actress Keerthy Suresh pulled the audiences to theatres with the biopic on yesteryear cine icon Savitri. After shattering records with Mahanati, the Telugu film industry is working on several other biopics.
Biopics on two former Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao and Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy are on the cards, while a new proposal to make a biopic on legendary Telugu actor Akkineni Nagaeshwar Rao (ANR). Several film makers are showing interest to work on biopics rather than commercial films, it is learnt.
However, Akkineni Naga Chaitanya, ANR's grandson, is not interested to step into his grandfather's shoes. Naga Chaitanya's father, Akkineni Nagarjuna, co-starred with him in Manam, a movie that marked a tribute to the legendary actor. By rejecting to play ANR, Naga Chaitanya is following the footprints of Jr.NTR, who also denied playing his grandfather in the NTR biopic.
