Chennai: Will Rajinikanth take the plunge into politics or will he maintain a 'safe' distance from it? This is the question doing the rounds among politicians, media, film fraternity and the common man after the superstar's meetings with his fans entered the fourth day on Thursday.
All political parties including the BJP, DMK and Congress said that they would welcome the actor's move if he enters politics. Several actors from the Tamil film industry and outside have expressed hope that Rajnikanth would enter politics. The media on its part is trying to add up the events of the past few days. The district-wise meeting, they say, is nothing but an opinion-gathering exercise of the superstar. About 250 Rajini-fans from each district have also been issued special ID cards. Only those who were issued the ID cards were able to attend the meeting and got an photo-opportunity with the star. Sources, say that during these meetings the fans impressed upon the actor that they would like to see their favourite actor in politics.
The rumour mill also has it that some people close to Rajinikanth had even consulted an astrologer in Kerala. The 'learned man' is said to have predicted that the actor will make it big in the political arena and will become the chief minister of Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, the actor himself did not give a 'teaser' or 'first look' about his political entry. After one of his meetings with the fans on Wednesday, he told the media that he will make an announcement at the right time.
The first phase of Rajinikanth's meetings with his fans will conclude on May 19.
